Our Mission The Southern Nevada Dental Society (SNDS) Dentist Health and Wellness Committee (DHWC) is a group of individuals established as an advocacy program to help distressed dentists and their families to identify and deal with the diseases of alcoholism, substance abuse/addiction and emotional disorders. Often distressed dentists cannot or will not reach out for help. Their colleagues, family, friends or team members may not know how or where to get help. We assist the dentist that is struggling with substance abuse/addiction by helping them obtain treatment and follow-up care. Objectives of the committee Identify individuals with substance abuse problems, recommend treatment centers and confirm the well-being of participants, while protecting anonymity at all times Motivate individuals to seek treatment voluntarily Assume an advocacy role, based on the individual’s recovery, to provide support to retain their dental practice Provide a means of protecting themselves, their families and their dental practice from the destructive effects related to alcohol and/or substance abuse.
